Cataldo
Pop. 100

Cataldo is one of the oldest settlements in the Idaho panhandle, boasting the Coeur d’Alene Mission of the Sacred Heart, or “Old Mission.” Father Antonio Ravalli of Italy built the mission in 1848. Father Joseph Cataldo, for whom the town is named, lead the Catholic parishioners in 1865 and eventually founded the Lapwai and Lewiston missions. Cataldo is known for its missionary work among Native Americans, a pursuit that Father Cataldo carried out until he was ninety-years-old.
