Clarkia
Pop. 190

Established as a flourishing lumber camp, Clarkia draws its name from famous explorer, William Clark. Unbeknownst to Clarkia’s earliest residents, however, was that the town used to rest at the bottom of an ancient lake. Although the lake bottom is dated over twenty million years old, its intriguing history wasn’t discovered until the early 1970s. Today, Clarkia is home to a variety of prehistoric animal and plant fossils that have attracted national geological and tourist attention.
