Sandpoint Area Hikes

Beehive Lake
Distance: 9 miles roundtrip
Climb: moderate
Difficulty: moderate
Location: From Sandpoint, proceed 10.5 miles north on US Highway 95. After crossing the Pack River Bridge, bear left onto Forest Road (FR) 231 (also called Pack River Road). Continue 17 miles to a sign for Beehive Lakes, park, and follow the footbridge to Trail 279.

After hiking along a fairly rough trail, hikers will discover a lake surrounded with numerous rock ridges and slabs. Moose have often been spotted wading in the lake, and Beehive is renowned for its population of cutthroat trout. Best months for hiking are June through September.
