Black Lake Town

Location: Adams County
Rugged mountains, Black Lake, and rushing streams provide the backdrop for the old mining camp called Black Lake Town. With the mine located above Black Lake and the mill located below, miners used cable tramways to transport the ore to the mill. Due to the distance between the mine and the town, miners generally stayed at the large boarding house built next to the mine, and Black Lake Town was known for its heavy alcohol consumption. Mining in the area died out within a few years of its start, and during World War II, the mill was dismantled for scrap metal.
