Idaho City’s gold mining heritage is captured in this informative museum emphasizing the region’s history from 1863 to 1890. Housed in a building utilized as a post office in 1867 and later as a Wells Fargo station, the museum is home to several old mining tools, regional artifacts, memorabilia, and historic photos. Costumed hosts lead visitors through several interpretive displays and present a video about Boise Basin’s history. The museum also explores historic buildings in the village as well as the 1864 territorial penitentiary. With free admission, the museum is open daily 11 AM to 4 PM Memorial Day to Labor Day, and 11 AM to 4 PM on Saturdays and Sundays the rest of the year.
