As settlers arrived in the Yuba City area, several miners branched out to form their own camps/settlements nearby. As a result, the mining camp of Brownstown was established near the Little Queens River, but the camp never achieved popularity. In the same vicinity, Chinese immigrants formed their own camp on the north side of Boise River. This camp was appropriately named China Basin, and many Chinese remained in the area for years to work the placer mines.
