Located in an outbuilding just outside the Old Idaho State Penitentiary, the Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology is the place for geology lovers and history buffs interested in the state’s mining tradition. Mining was one of Idaho’s first industries and has remained an important component of the state’s economy. Inside this museum, visitors will find old mining artifacts and photos relating the story of Idaho’s mining history. The museum is open from 12 PM to 5 PM on weekends April through October and also by appointment.
