Owyhee County Museum

Location: 190 Basey Street, Murphy
Phone: (208) 495-2319
The Owyhee County Museum offers an excellent collection of well-preserved historical buildings as well as a small research library. Visitors will find a one-room schoolhouse, a pioneer log cabin with the kitchen still intact, the old Marsing railroad depot complete with a Union Pacific caboose, antique farm machinery, Oregon Trail information, and a reconstructed mining stamp mill complete with equipment used in old Owyhee mines. In the library, nearly 4,000 photos illustrate the region’s growth and development, and microfiche newspapers preserve local history back to 1865. The museum is open from 10 AM to 4 PM Tuesday through Saturday year-round.
