Placer Basin

Location: Adams County
Rich ore was discovered in Placer Basin as early as 1890, but production of the ore did not begin until the early 1930s. After Tom Williams struck gold in the area in 1930, he sold out his claim. The new owners constructed a mill that operated in 1935 and 1936 and produced more than $3 million in free milling gold. The mill stands to this day, but the rest of Placer Basin’s buildings are falling apart.
