Location: Owyhee County
Established along Jordan Creek, Wagontown was an important stage stop on the road from Silver City to Winnemucca, Nevada. With the aid of the stagecoach, prospectors eventually arrived in the area and Wagontown soon became a center for mining activity. J.W. Stoddard discovered the first mine in the area, and soon the Webfoot, Last Chance, and the Garfield mines were in operation. Wagontown also included a mill important in handling the tailings that arrived from the De Lamar mill. Today, visitors will find evidence of mine dredging in the area as well as the old Wagontown cemetery.
