| Castleford draws its name from a crossing on the Salmon Falls Creek surrounded by a canyon lined with basalt formations. Pioneers journeying west used the crossing in 1849, and the site later became a famous crossing point on the Kelton-Dalles stage route. Today, the town is recognized as home to nearby Balanced Rock. |
