| Now a suburb of Idaho Falls, the city of Ammon dates back to the arrival of Mormon pioneers during the 1890s. The town was originally a sprawl from nearby Iona, but when settlers applied for a post office in 1898, a separate community was formed. The town draws its name from a Mormon apostle featured in The Book of Mormon. |
