| In 1880, John Kuntz and his family of eight sons and two daughters, along with George Alleman and Alleman’s children and grandchildren, migrated to southeastern Idaho and established a new Mormon settlement. Possessing Swiss roots, these first settlers christened their town after Bern, Switzerland, and a post office operated in the area from 1901 to 1927. |
