| In 1864, settlers from Soda Springs trickled down to this area and began a new community. They planted a commercial garden on a site surveyed by Joseph Rich and built homes out of quaking aspen. The town was named for Charles Rich, Mormon apostle and leader of the Bear Lake Valley’s Mormon colonization. The town is best known as the birthplace of Mount Rushmore sculptor, Gutzon Borglum. |
